While we remain separated from God by our sin, we are separated from the source of physical life and the source of spiritual life. He gives us physical life that doesn’t last very long when we are born physically because it is shortened by sin. Once He has given us spiritual life, that life will last forever. Because eternal life is in Him, only He is able to give it to us. When He forgives our sin, we are given a connection with Him that shall never be disconected. I sometimes think of it as like a spiritual and eternal and unbreakable umbilical chord. John 10:27 My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: 28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.Giving a mortal man or woman spiritual and eternal life and spiritual sight (understanding) is the work of God and God alone. Ephesians 2:8 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: IT IS THE GIFT OF GOD: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10 FOR WE ARE HIS WORKMANSHIP, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.Philippians 2:12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling. 13 For IT IS GOD WHICH WORKETH IN YOU both to will and to do of his good pleasure.
